  13. I just voted against turning off windowing support by default, but
  14. it would certainly be possible to have a wvirmf and a nvirmf
  15. as separate entities.  I still think that if nvirmf
  16. (no-windows-virmf) is placed on a multi-user network as the
  17. default, the installer owes it to the user to provide for a message
  18. which informs a user that proof or smoke mode usually comes with
  19. a display,  That could possible be done in metafont code in modes.mf,
  20. though I am not sure that at the metafont coding level it is possible
  21. to know whether windows are attached or not.
